By high school I transitioned to 35mm black and white film and a PentaxK-1000. When the four corners of single silver gelatin prints I made constrained my storytelling, I moved to collections of images and finally to the written word. It took years to complete my novel (ten if you must know) and the process left me longing to make, so I began teaching myself photographic transfer and hand applied emulsion processes along with handwork like embroidery. This exploration of traditional photo making and women’s work, combined with a female protagonist who invaded my waking and sleeping hours, shifted the focus of my work from children and the work of the hand to the undervalued and overlooked contributions of women.
